It’s critical to report life changes once you’ve purchased Marketplace coverage. This information could affect the coverage or discounts you qualify for. Here are seven things to keep in mind while reporting life changes:
- It’s critical to notify the Marketplace of any life changes as soon as possible. SEP-eligible individuals have 60 days from the date of the qualifying life event to enroll or change health insurance policies. If the adjustments qualify you for more or fewer savings, make the changes as soon as feasible.
- You must notify the Marketplace of the following changes:
- Changes in your household size due to changes in income or other factors
- Pregnancy, childbirth, adoption/placing a child for adoption, gaining/losing a dependent, or relocation are all examples of life changes.
- Obtaining health insurance through a job or a government program such as Medicare or Medicaid
- View the complete list of life changes that need to be reported.
- You can submit a change report online. To gain access to your account, enter your username and password. Choose your application, then go to the left-hand menu and pick “Report a life change.” Changes can also be reported over the phone—Call 1-800-318-2596 to reach the Marketplace Call Center (TTY: 1-855-889-4325). Do not send these updates to the postal service.
- Some life changes may influence your eligibility for a premium tax credit. Visit the IRS website for additional information.
- After you’ve reported the changes, you’ll receive a revised eligibility notification indicating whether you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period and whether you qualify for lower pricing based on your new information.
- You’ll be able to browse for a different plan on the Marketplace online if you’re eligible for a Special Enrollment Period. Log into your account and choose the software you wish to utilize. Then, select “Eligibility and Appeals” from the left-hand option. Click the green “Continue to enrollment” button at the bottom of the page. Call the Marketplace Call Center to make changes to your plans over the phone.
- You can’t modify your plans if you’re not eligible for a Special Enrollment Period, but your tax credit has changed. However, you have the option of adjusting the amount of the tax credit that will be applied to your monthly payments.
