You might be able to enroll in health insurance or renew plans for the remainder of 2021 if you qualify for a SEP (Special Enrollment Period). Here are three facts about the Special Enrollment Period that you should be aware of:

Three ways to get health insurance coverage outside of Open Enrollment

  1. Certain life events qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period. If you have a life event, such as getting married, losing health insurance, or having a baby, you may be able to sign up or change plans for the rest of 2021. Check out the complete list of events or answer a few quick questions to see if you are eligible.
  2. If you qualify, you only have a specific time limit to act. Typically, you have up to 60 days after a life event to register in a plan. If you do not act quickly, you will be forced to wait until the next Open Enrollment Period to apply for 2021 coverage (unless you qualify for another SEP or Special Enrollment Period).
  3. When you apply for Marketplace coverage during a Special Enrollment Period, you may be asked to provide documentation to confirm the events that qualify you. You must upload these files before you can use your new coverage. You have around 30 days to submit your application.
