Your health coverage pays for doctor services, hospital care, prescriptions, and specialized equipment when you are sick. It is also essential when you are not ill. Now that you’ve signed up for a health insurance plan for 2021, here’s how you can make the most of your new health insurance throughout the year, no matter what your circumstances are.
Understanding and utilizing your new coverage
i) Preventive care:
Most insurance plans cover immunizations for adults and children, annual visits for seniors and women, obesity screening tests and counseling for people of all ages, and other services for free.
ii) Prescriptions:
Some health coverage plans will cover the cost of specific prescriptions. Other medications may be available, but those on your plan’s “formulary” (also called approved list) are usually less expensive. Visit your insurer’s website, contact them directly, or check your “Summary of Benefits and Coverage” to find which prescriptions are covered under your new Marketplace plan.
iii) Regular and emergency care facilities:
You will typically get the best deal on services when you see a doctor who has a contract with your health plan. While you may be able to visit doctors, who do not participate in your program, going to an “in-network” provider usually means lower out-of-pocket costs. In an emergency condition, however, seek treatment at the nearest hospital that can assist you.
