If you purchased health insurance through the Marketplace in 2021, you can change, update, compare, or renew your plan for 2022 until Wednesday, December 15, 2021. That’s in less than two weeks! If you miss these enrollment deadlines, you will be automatically enrolled for 2022 coverage, which is not your best option.

Why update and compare for 2022 if you want to maintain the same plan?

  • New low-cost plans might be available this year. Just like people, insurance premiums and plans change each year. You may be able to find 2022 plans with coverage and features that better meet your needs—significantly if your income or household situation has changed or seems to change.
  • Get the appropriate amount of financial assistance for 2022. Savings are calculated based on your expected earnings in 2022 (not 2021). If your information is out of date, your premium tax credit and other savings may be incorrect. As a result, you need to pay a higher monthly premium or borrow money on your federal taxes.
  • You may not always be automatically enrolled. To be on the safe side, you must sign up for the available plan by December 15, 2021.

How to Change or Renew Your 2022 Insurance Coverage

  • Update your enrollment form with your expected 2022 income and household information.
  • Compare your current plan to other 2020 options. If you want to keep your current program, you should update your information and check out all other health plan options. If you don’t, you might miss out on savings and a better-fitting plan.
