The Health Insurance Marketplace offers many coverage options for young adults.

Fill out an application during a Special Enrollment Period.

You may be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period without even realizing it. Have you recently married, had a child, adopted a child, or relocated? Is your student health insurance plan about to expire? If that’s the case, you might be able to get Marketplace coverage without going through Open Enrollment.

Fill out an application for Medicaid and CHIP at any time.

Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) can be enrolled at any time of the year. You can enroll right now if you qualify.

Enroll in a parent’s health insurance plan

You may be eligible to stay on your parent’s health insurance plan until you reach the age of 26. This is true even if you’re married, don’t live at home, or aren’t financially dependent on your parents. If you reach 26 and are no longer covered by your parent’s plan, you are eligible for a Special Enrollment Period.

Think about catastrophic health insurance

Defend yourself against the exorbitant costs of worst-case events such as accidents or major illnesses. If you’re under 30, you can purchase a catastrophic health plan that covers three annual primary care visits. Before you reach your deductible, devastating plans provide these services as well as free preventative care.
