Still open – Coverage in Medicaid and CHIP

Even though the 2022 Marketplace Open Enrollment period has ended, you can still apply for Medicaid or Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) coverage.

Medicaid and CHIP are state-federal partnerships that provide health insurance to millions of low-income Americans and some persons with disabilities.

These programs do not have a set enrollment period. You can apply at any time. You (or a family member) can enroll right away if you qualify.

The following elements determine whether you qualify:

  • The state you live in
  • Your household size and income
  • Disability
  • Pregnancy
  • Your family status or other factors

Even if you don’t qualify for Medicaid, your children may be eligible for CHIP coverage.

What is the process for applying for Medicaid and CHIP?

Directly contact your state agency. To find contact information, use the state dropdown menu at the bottom of our Medicaid page.

Fill out an application for the Marketplace. If it looks that you or someone on your application qualifies for Medicaid or CHIP, we’ll send your application to your state agency.
